The causes and consequences of parental care in fish

PI and Institution:
Catherine Sheard, University of Aberdeen

PhD aim:
Investigate the causes and consequences of key transitions and drivers in different parental care strategies in fish.

PhD objectives:

  • What are the key transitions in parental care strategies?
  • What drives these transitions?
  • Do any lineages show specific trends?
  • Fish Fanning: Investigate whether aerating eggs using pectoral fins is driving, or is driven by, morphological evolution.
  • Egg Colours: Investigate the transitions between different egg colours and the possible causes of these transitions.
