(she/her)

My background is in Marine Science with Arctic Studies which I completed at SAMS, my Hons dissertation focused on mapping retreating glaciers in Svalbard. After graduation I went on to work in the aquaculture industry before returning to SAMS to work with the Seaweed Academy. I decided to further my studies with an MSc in Applied Environmental Geoscience from UCC. My masters thesis focused on the manganese impacts on Scottish reservoirs and groundwater with Scottish Water. In my spare time I love climbing and getting involved in water sports.
An Environmental Evaluation of Deep-Sea Tailings Placement (DSTP) for Batu Hijau and Elang Gold-Copper Mines, Indonesia
PI and Institution:
John Alexander Howe, University of the Highlands and Islands, SAMS
PhD aim:
- To understand the environmental impacts of Deep-Sea Tailings Placement.
PhD objectives:
- To determine if the extent and behavior of the tailings plume and subsequent depositional footprint have a significant impact across the deep marine environment.
- To determine to what extent do the fluid dynamics and the grain size of the tailings impact their mobility.
- To determine if the mine tailings are smothering the benthos and to what extent are the mechanisms of subsurface plumes contributing to the movement of tailings.
