An evo-devo approach to invasive biology and resilience to climate change
PhD aims:
- Analyse gene expression data from four closely related gastropod species from all stages of their life cycle, to better understand shell development
- Compare gene expression profiles to differing phenotypic traits between the gastropod species
PhD objectives:
- Determine what developmental mechanisms make Crepidula forniacata (a marine gastropod) invasive compared to its most closely related non-invasive species
- Determine what developmental mechanisms regulate the shell traits that give Crepidula fornicata superior resilience to ocean acidification and climate change compared to its most closely related relatives
