Izzy Langley
I studied a master’s degree in Marine Mammal Science at the University of St Andrews in 2014/2015. Between 2015 and 2019 I worked as a research assistant at the Sea Mammal Research Unit. My research interests are in population biology and behavioural ecology of marine top predators.
Inter-specific Interactions: Investigating the role of grey seals in the harbour seal decline
PhD Aim:
The aim of this PhD is to investigate the ecological interactions between two sympatric species of seals in the UK in the context of their contrasting population trajectories.
PhD Objectives:
We will attempt to answer the following research questions:
- Is there evidence of a link between grey and harbour seal densities and trends?
- Is there evidence on inter-specific competition?
- Could grey seal predation have caused the regional decline in harbour seals?
