Spatio-temporal trends in biodiversity of demersal fish in the North Sea and its relevance for the fishing industry

PhD Aims:

• To investigate whether spatio-temporal trends in demersal fish biodiversity can be used to predict the likelihood of bycatch in the fishing industry

PhD Objectives:

• Produce maps of biodiversity and discard hotspots, and test whether biodiversity is a good predictor for discarding/bycatch
• If it is, then use these biodiversity maps to create tools for fishers to spatially avoid areas characterised by high levels of discarding and bycatch
