SUMMARY:Raising your Game: Developing Mathematical Modelling Skills
DESCRIPTION:SUPER is delighted to offer this course delivering core skills in model development and numerical implementation in ecological modelling. Run by Dr Dougie Speirs and Prof Mike Heath from the University of Strathclyde\, you will leave the course equipped with worked examples and the knowledge to apply these methods to your own research. \nThe course will be fully residential at the University of Strathclyde’s Ross Priory Conference Centre. \nCourse features include: \n\nHighly practical delivery\, using the R coding environment.\nImmersive environment with hands-on support to develop your modelling skills.\nProject work involving models from individuals to ecosystems\, including examples drawn from real research programmes.\nEncouragement to present your own PhD material for model formulation and computer coding sessions in small groups.\n\nPreviously\, this course has been very well received: \n\nOverall it was rated 5/5 stars – ‘Excellent’ and participants were ‘Extremely likely’ to recommend the course.\nParticipants said that the instructional materials and learning activities were ‘Extremely effective’.\nWhen asked to rate how well instructors did on the following aspects\, all said ‘Very well’ for each; Explained the purpose of activities\, Presented concepts in clear and easy-to-understand way\, Maintained your interest throughout\, Encouraged participation\, and Thoroughly answered questions.\n‘This was excellent. In particular [I] enjoyed the structure\, level of engagement and building up everyone’s models.’\n\nFirst-come first-served places are offered at around £950 pp\, including accommodation and all meals\, plus expert tutelage\, which will be funded through your TSG. \nWe encourage you to first speak to your supervisors to ensure this course is the right fit for you. Then\, please sign up via this MS Form. \nIf you have any questions\, please contact superdtp@st-andrews.ac.uk.
